Chris Eagles has been pictured training with Preston North End following his release by Charlton Athletic at the end of last season.

Eagles spent time at Blackpool and Charlton Athletic in the Championship last season, but this summer finds himself on the lookout for a new club. The 29-year-old now appears to be on trial with newly promoted Preston North End.

The former Manchester United player is no stranger to the area, having also turned out for Burnley and Bolton Wanderers. He made over 200 appearances with The Clarets and The Trotters, including a season in the Premier League with each club. At this stage it is unknown whether Simon Grayson is seriously looking at adding him to the squad or whether he is simply training with North End to keep his fitness up.

Eagles is a very creative player who would be a worthwhile signing on a free transfer. Preston already have a similar player in the squad, however, in Paul Gallagher who signed a permanent contract last month after a prolonged loan spell. Further creativity in the side also comes from Daniel Johnson, who quickly became a fan favourite after joining from Aston Villa in January.

The Lilywhites are in need of additions in the full-back area more than anything, and the news of Eagles supposedly being on trial has come out of the blue. With less than a month until the season starts, fans are eager to start seeing the squad take shape having seen plenty of players leave the club following last season's play-off victory.

Earlier this week, Preston completed the loan signing of Will Keane, who has joined for the season from Manchester United. The striker has previously spent time on loan with Wigan Athletic, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday.
