Newcastle United round-up: Wijnaldum in Newcastle for talks, Mandanda linked

Steve Mandanda

A round-up of the latest transfer news at St James's Park, with the club edging closing to making their first signings.

The possible transfers of PSV star Georginio Wijnaldum and Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to Newcastle United remain high on the club's agenda in Friday evening's news round up in the North-East.

The Netherlands international was said to have visited the club today to have a medical ahead of a £14 million move, according to the Mirror.

Serbia striker Mitrovic is also said to be close to a move, with Sky Sports saying his representatives were in Newcastle finalising the details of a switch.

Eurosport are linking Marseille custodian Steve Mandanda to St James's Park, with question marks remaining on Tim Krul's performances last season.

The France international has been linked to Tottenham this summer by the Mirror, in the event Hugo Lloris leaves the club, but Steve McClaren is also said to be taking an interest in the 30-year-old.

Roma and Valencia are also said to be chasing Mandanda however.

And finally, the club were set to play their first pre-season friendly this summer, and Steve McClaren's first game in charge of the club, when they made the short trip over the River Tyne to face Gateshead.

The former England boss named a strong starting line-up for the match, with plenty of younger players on the bench.
