The Italian international was one of the most sought-after defenders this summer following his decision to leave Serie A champions Juventus at the end of last season.
The Mirror credited West Ham United with holding a strong interest while Tottenham Hotspur, as per TMW, Aston Villa, also as per TMW and Everton, according to the Liverpool Echo, were also said to be in the hunt.
The Toffees were said to have tabled a bid for the 27-year-old, a rumour which Ogbonna alluded to during his Facebook message on concluding his transfer to Upton Park.
“Premier League I am coming! I chose London. My heart was telling me West Ham: I am looking forward to start working with Mr. Bilic and the new team mates…I am ready to face this new experience!,” he wrote.
“I would like to thank the Everton for having been real gentlemen. My heart was telling me West Ham:”
Ogbonna made 25 Serie A appearances for Juve last season, a telling number of matches which proves how big of a coup his transfer is for West Ham.
The Hammers have been busy this summer, bringing in Dimitri Payet, Darren Randolph and Pedro Obiang, although the deal to bring on Ogbonna is arguably their biggest feat to date.
Slaven Bilic is building an exciting team with the Hammers, and with the club’s move to the Olympic Stadium imminent, a new dawn at West Ham is well and truly underway.
