HITC Sport understands that Boro are mulling over an approach for a man who is also interesting Queens Park Rangers and Hull City.

Middlesbrough are weighing up whether to hijack Reading's move for Ali Al Habsi, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper left Wigan Athletic following their relegation to League One in 2014/15 as they needed to shed some of their higher earners.

Oman international Al Habsi has been training with Reading this summer and linked up with them on their pre-season tour of the Far East.

The Royals have offered him terms, but they are not the only club in talks with his representatives.

Relegated Queens Park Rangers and Hull City have been strongly linked as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, and HITC Sport understands Boro are also now looking closely at him.

Boro just missed out on veteran shot-stopper Shay Given, who shunned a move to The Riverside to sign with Stoke City.

Now Boro could do the same to Championship rivals Reading and try to out bid them for Al Habsi's services.
