West Brom lost 3-1 to Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday.
The Baggies fell to a 3-1 defeat in their first pre-season friendly of the 2015/16 season.
They were outclassed by a team who looked far more prepared than them, but the defeat is not too bad. There were clear positives to be taken with the negatives, and the game was mostly used as a way for manager Tony Pulis to assess his squad early in the pre-season schedule.
He utilised a mixture of first-team and youth players, changing the squad almost completely at half-time, and the game is a chance for progress to be made in the coming weeks.
One player who caught the eye for the Baggies was Adil Nabi, a 21-year-old striker who has progressed through the youth academy of the Midlands club.
He scored West Brom’s only goal of the game with a neat finish at the near post, confusing the goalkeeper to place the ball past him. He looked a real live wire in the attacking third, also dropping into a deeper midfield position if needed, and the England Under-21 international could be set for a breakthrough season this coming campaign.
He has yet to make his competitive debut for the Baggies, although has been included in matchday squads in the Premier League.
He scored an impressive 13 goals in 22 Under-21 games last term, and West Brom fans responded in a positive manner to his impressive performance in the loss to Salzburg.
