Capoue started Watford’s first pre-season friendly of the 2015/16 season, as the Hornets ran out 4-0 winners over St. Albans City.
The two Hertfordshire sides faced off at Clarence Park, with Odion Ighalo netting twice for the visitors. Troy Deeney and Connor Smith rounded off the victory, which saw a host of changes across both halves.
A number of players made their debuts for Watford, with the likes of Giedrius Arlauskis and Sebastian Prodl making appearances. However, it was one player who truly excelled.
Etienne Capoue started the game, lasting just over 50 minutes on his debut following his transfer from Tottenham Hotspur. The Hornets’ record signing assisted one goal, and put in a performance which suggested he has a bright career ahead of him at Vicarage Road.
Playing in the middle of the park, he utilised his strength and experience to get ahead of his opponents, and although only playing a Conference South side, he enjoyed a great debut.
Fans were full of praise for the French midfielder, who is looking to get his career back on track, and a host of people took to Twitter to state their pleasure with Capoue’s debut performance for Watford.
@Adam_Drury1 yeh yeh Ighalo was decent, Vydra ineffective when he came on. FF was decent. Capoue controlled the game & looks class.— Oliver O'Gorman (@OlleyOG) July 8, 2015
Capoue's debut, looked class first half then subbed. Dyer on the wing looked good when he came on— George Robbins (@GeorgeRobbins10) July 8, 2015
Enjoyable enough. Capoue looks a class above. Can't really analyse too much on the first game back. St Albans are not rolling over mind.— Paul D. Hogan (@hoganwatford) July 8, 2015
