Southampton fans react on Twitter to Jay Rodriguez’s comeback goals

Jay Rodriguez netted twice for Southampton as they lost to RB Leipzig.

The Saints lost 4-5 to RB Leipzig in a thrilling friendly, as the South Coast club got their pre-season tour off the ground.

Goals from new signings Juanmi and Cedric Soares whetted the appetite, but it was the return of Jay Rodriguez which will made the defeat bearable. The English forward, playing his first football for over a year, came on as a half-time substitute - and proceeded to score two goals.

His first strike cam just eight minutes into his return, whilst also netting one in injury time, and although the Saints registered a loss, Rodriguez’s impact was a real positive.

He looked fitter and stronger than he was before his injury, and there will be big expectations that the 25-year-old takes the Premier League by storm after his season out of action.

Despite the loss, Southampton fans took to Twitter to express their delight that Rodriguez was back in action - and scoring on top of that.
