People News: BNP Paribas, Sumitomo

Google

Google hired Timi Ajibola, a U.S. mortgage-bond strategist at BNP Paribas, to help manage its investments as technology giants deal with growing cash hoards.

Bloomberg News reports that Winnie King, a spokeswoman for Google, confirmed in an e-mail that Ajibola was 'indeed joining our portfolio-management team'.

In the meantime, Bloomberg News also reports that Sumitomo Mitsui Financial is seeking as many as six new hires for a team that specializes in underwriting bonds issued by banks that would insulate taxpayers from costs if the lenders later fail.

SMBC Nikko Securities, the investment banking arm of the lender, expanded the team in March that manages debt sales by financial institutions, said Shunshi Kira, the head of the capital markets division.
