Alex Lopez is signing on loan for Sheffield Wednesday.

Celta Vigo midfielder Alex Lopez has confirmed his departure to Sheffield Wednesday.

Spanish outlet La Voz De Galicia reported earlier today the 27-year-old was set to sign a season long loan deal to move to the Championship side.

Lopez has since confirmed via his Twitter page he is leaving the club, thanking the Celta Vigo fans for their support, and posting a goodbye note explaining his imminent move to Sheffield Wednesday, in which he verifies it is for a loan agreement.

Alex Lopez played 25 La Liga games for the Spanish side last season, who finished eighth in the top flight.

While pending confirmation from the club themselves, he stands to be the second big signing at Hillsborough in as many days, after Marco Matias was bought from Nacional.

Lopez is a former Spanish under-17 international and is a central midfielder who has played more than 200 games in his homeland.
