The Belgian international continues to be linked with a move to Anfield from Aston Villa this summer.
Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has made it clear that he thinks a Reds move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke would be an outstanding signing for Brendan Rodgers, in an interview with Talksport on Wednesday.
The Belgian international has long been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, but with Tim Sherwood and his club reluctant to accept anything less than the forward's £32.5 million release clause, it hasn't been plain sailing for negotiations, even if ESPN are reporting that the 25-year-old is willing to push hard for a transfer.
And not taking into account the fee necessary to bring the former Genk man to Merseyside, Hamann made it clear what he thought of the player, highlighting three creative players who will help get the best out of the powerful frontman.
“Christian Benteke is tailor-made for Liverpool,” the ex German international told Talksport.
“He will score 20-plus goals a season in the Premier League for Liverpool with the service he’ll get from Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firminho.”
Whether a deal comes off for Benteke or not, Liverpool may well have to be considering exactly how they are going to put together a side if Daniel Sturridge is fit and the Belgian is also available, with the creative forces of the three players Hamann mentioned another factor to consider.
Former Chelsea man Sturridge impressed the most when playing as a central striker for the Reds the season before last, but Benteke is also very much more of a target man in a central role. Considering Firmino, Coutinho and Lallana may all be hoping to be playing off the main striker, it could mean Brendan Rodgers has some work to do to fit his best players in a starting eleven.
But the Northern Irishman will be happy to have too many quality players in attacking positions than too few, as he did last season.
