The Moroccan midfielder said: “I think Tjaronn perhaps the best number 10 in the Netherlands. He is so incredibly well both physically and mentally at the moment.”
These comments should delight Villa fans, with their club closing in on a move for the playmaker.
Considering both parties want a deal to go through, there is a suggestion that Chery will be turning out in a Villa shirt before too long.
As Villa struggled in the attacking department last season, the knowledge that they could be signing the ‘best number 10’ in the Netherlands is great news.
During the 2014/15 campaign, Chery played 34 times in the Eredivisie for Groningen. He scored 15 goals and registered six assists, averaging 3.9 shots per game.
The 27-year-old also played 1.7 key passes per game, and 41.5 passes per game, with an average pass completion rate of 81.8%.
He would fulfil a role in the Villa team which is currently absent, and the Birmingham-based club would be completing a great piece of business if able to bring Chery to Villa Park ahead of the coming season.
