HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Derby County are ready to make an improved bid for Burnley defender Jason Shackell.
Derby boss Paul Clement has made Shackell one of his top transfer targets this summer as he looks to bring the 31-year-old back to the club.
Shackell spent one season at Derby and captained the side before joining Burnley in 2012.
Derby have already seen one bid in the region of £1.5million rejected by Burnley, with Clarets boss Sean Dyche reluctant to lose his captain.
Shackell was an ever-present in the Burnley side in the Premier League last season and Dyche wants to keep the centre-back as he looks to mount a bid for promotion back to the top-flight at the first time of asking.
Derby are now ready to test Burnley's resolve to keep hold of Shackell with an improved offer in the region of £2million as Clement looks to maintain his reshaping of the Rams squad.
