HITC Sport understands a host of clubs are battling it out to sign highly-rated Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton on loan.

HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that highly-rated Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton is set to go out on loan, with a number of sides chasing his signature.

Brighton are ready to loan out Walton following the recent arrival of Finland goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa which took the number of keepers on the books at the Amex Stadium to four.

Maenpaa is set to provide cover and competition for No.1 David Stockdale, while veteran keeper Casper Ankergren is set to be third-choice keeper after signing a new deal this summer.

Walton is highly-regarded by Brighton boss Chris Hughton, but he feels the 19-year-old would benefit from going out on loan to gain valuable first-team experience.

The England Under-19 and Under-20 international made his first-team debut last season in a Capital One Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur and Walton impressed during the game at White Hart Lane.

Walton made four appearances in total last season, keeping two clean sheets, and news of his availability on loan has alerted several clubs.

The likes of Blackpool, Swindon Town, Bradford City, Gillingham and Crawley are all thought to have made enquiries for Walton as they look to land the talented custodian on loan.
