Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger hails Alexis Sanchez’s audacity

The Chilean scored a Panenka penalty in the Copa America final and Wenger says that effort shows he is not afraid of anything.

Arsene Wenger has hailed Alexis Sanchez’s lack of fear via the club’s official website.

The Chilean scored the decisive penalty in the Copa America final against Argentina recently, electing to go with a Panenka style despite the intense pressure of the situation.

That penalty saw his side win the Copa America for the first time, while it was also their first ever major international trophy to boot. And Wenger has praised the forward’s audacity, saying he has once again shown everyone that he is not afraid of anything.

“He has shown again that he is scared of nothing,” he told

“He took the ball and chipped the keeper. It was quite audacious but I was of course over the moon to see him bring the trophy to a country that has waited for such a long time.”

Determined to win everything with the Gunners

The Arsenal manager has also revealed that the forward is already focusing on next season after his international success.

Sanchez proved to be a fantastic signing for the Gunners from Barcelona last summer, as he proved to be the difference in a number of key games and starred in his first season in the Premier League.

That season culminated in the club’s second successive FA Cup triumph, with the Chilean scoring a wonder goal in the 4-0 win over Aston Villa, and Wenger says his star man is determined to win everything during his time in England.

“I texted him [after the final] and he texted me back," he added.

"He was already focused on next season with Arsenal and wants to win everything with us. He was thrilled and very happy.”
