After a summer of upheaval following last season’s disappointment, Derby County fans will get to see the new look Rams for the first time since Paul Clement was appointed head coach.
Derby will be looking to erase the memory of the 3-0 home loss to Reading on the last day of the season, which saw them fall outside the play-off positions, when they face Grimsby on Saturday with a fresh approach.
Tom Ince and Darren Bent, who were part of that side, have both signed permanent deals and are expected to play, while Chris Baird, Alex Pearce, Scott Carson and Andreas Weimann could all make their Derby debuts.
Jake Buxton and Chris Martin are unlikely to play after nursing injuries still carried over from the end of last season. Simon Dawkins is away on international duty and will be unavailable for Clement until the end of the month.
The Derby under-21 side are due to play Belper Town the night before, so it should only be the immediate first-team that are called up for the first friendly of the season.
The predicted Derby County squad
Goalkeepers: Lee Grant and Scott Carson.
Defenders: Cyrus Christie, Ryan Shotton, Richard Keogh, Raul Albentosa, Farrend Rawson, Alex Pearce, Craig Forsyth and Stephen Warnock
Midfielders: Jamie Hanson, Chris Baird, George Thorne, Will Hughes, Jeff Hendrick and Craig Bryson.
Strikers: Johnny Russell, Tom Ince, Andreas Weimann, Ivan Calero, Darren Bent and Conor Sammon.
Calero, Rawson and Hanson could all benefit from the absences of Buxton, Martin and Dawkins and earn a slot in the squad.
Clement is likely to go easy on his side, perhaps play two different starting XIs in each half, as it’s the club’s first pre-season mach since their return to training.
Sammon will certainly be under the new head coach's microscope after spending last season out on loan to Championship rivals Ipswich Town and then Rotherham United.
