According to Sky Bet, Aston Villa are the most likely destination for Andros Townsend next season, with Sunderland the second favourites, as the England international is priced at 3/1 to stay at Tottenham Hotspur.
Earlier in the week, the Express reported that West Ham United had joined Villa in the race for the £15 million rated winger, but were not fancied by Sky Bet as a serious contender for his signature.
Aston Villa - 11/10
Sunderland – 2/1
Tottenham Hotspur – 3/1
Southampton – 8/1
Newcastle United – 10/1
West Ham United – 20/1
The market is none too surprising considering the player’s links to Villa manager Tim Sherwood. However, it’s noteworthy that Sunderland have jumped ahead of his current club, Spurs, as a more likely destination for him next season.
Would Townsend be a good signing for Villa this summer?
Sherwood is notoriously a big fan of the winger, after tipping him to star in the World Cup back in 2014, as reported by the Mirror, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him go in for the Spurs midfielder.
Townsend’s style would fit in well with Sherwood’s ethos and he would no doubt be offered a key place in the team if he joined.
The 23-year-old could flourish at Villa, similarly to Tom Cleverley last season, given the chance and it does look like an ideal match going into the coming season.
