Sherwood explains two ways he'll look to revitalise Aston Villa's mentality

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has stressed the need for the club to change their losing mentality.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has been quoted by BT Sport stressing the need for his squad to shake off a losing mentality.

Sherwood has explained that he feels a negative mentality still exists in relation to the side from last season and he’s explained two key ways he’ll look to go about changing things heading into the new campaign.

“I said in the latter stages of last season that there is, unfortunately, a losing mentality in the dressing room at Aston Villa,” he’s quoted by BT Sport.

“It is something we need to get rid of. It would help by bringing in new players who are used to winning and, also, it is for my staff to instil into them that it is a clean sheet. Everyone is on a level playing field and we need to move forward.”

Players coming in who are used to winning are going to expect Aston Villa to give them a platform which enhances and builds on that experience.

Therefore, they will come into the club and demand the very best from those around them, which should help to improve the overall mentality of the squad.

If Sherwood started signing players who he didn’t feel were real winners, they wouldn’t have any impact on their new teammates and the impact would be lessened.

The staff have a key role to play as Sherwood suggests because they are the individuals working with the players on a daily basis.

They have to stress the positives, with the main one being that despite a poor end to last season, Villa are still a Premier League club and have the chance to build on that over the next ten months.
