Report: Watford enter race to sign Stefano Okaka

Watford want to sign Okaka, along with Leeds United, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Sunderland.

Watford have been approaching Leeds United concerning a move for Stefano Okaka, according to CalcioNews24.

The Sampdoria striker, 25, enjoyed a breakthrough season in Serie A during 2014/15, netting four goals in 34 games, and showing a real physical presence in the final third.

His strong displays earned him his first international call up with Italy, during which he also scored his first goal.

These displays in the Italian top flight have not only earned him recognition at home, but he has been touted as a potential summer target for a number of English teams.

Watford’s interest makes them the latest team to considerer Okaka - who once spent a spell on loan with Fulham - with SampNews24 claiming that Leeds United want him, whilst TMW have reported on interest from Crystal Palace and Swansea City.

Sunderland have also shown an interest in moving for the striker, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.

As well as scoring four goals, Okaka showed himself to be a real attacking presence last term, winning 26 headers, completing 38 dribbles and holding a season-wide pass completion of 77%. He was a constant danger to opposition defences, and is still yet to reach his peak.

Watford are already well stocked in the attacking department, with Troy Deeney, Odion Ighalo and Matej Vydra all expected to make the step up to the Premier League, but it is hard to deny that Okaka would bring another style of play to their impressive forward ranks ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
