According to the ‘Al Partido de las 12’ show on Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, Real Madrid are looking at moving on Russian winger Denis Cheryshev before the club’s pre-season tour of Australia at the end of the month.
Last week, Liverpool were linked, by TMW, with a £10.6million move for the 24-year-old as a potential replacement for Raheem Sterling. And following the England international’s recent absence from training, as reported by the Mail, the timing couldn’t be better.
Brendan Rodgers will be eager to avoid prolonging the Sterling transfer saga and with Real looking to move on Cheryshev, a potential replacement for Sterling, quickly then it could potentially be a deal that is tied up relatively fast.
Would Cheryshev be a good signing for Liverpool?
The Russia international may not be a household name like Sterling. However, he was outstanding in his loan spell at Villarreal – playing a key part in the La Liga side’s top-six finish.
Very much a creative winger, the Real Madrid academy product looks like the ideal replacement for Sterling as he still has age on his side and a lot of room to develop.
Villarreal are keen to tie up Cheryshev on a permanent deal, which is no surprise given his loan spell there, but Liverpool can blow the La Liga outfit away on the financial side and would have to be considered favourites should both teams go in for the player's signature.
Nevertheless, with Sterling still a Liverpool player for the time being, Rodgers may want to assess his options until a bid comes in that he deems acceptable.
