Adam Armstrong looks set to leave Newcastle on loan next season.
Armstrong, who has played 19 games for Newcastle’s first-team without scoring a goal, is a frequent selection at Under-21 level. He scored 11 goals in 14 Under-21 Premier League games last term, as well as captaining England Under-18’s - with whom he has netted six goals in six game.
Still being just 18, his impressive first-team games tally suggests a lot of promise for Armstrong’s career, and he is considered one of the best young forwards in English football right now.
However, Steve McClaren does not want to see a stagnation in his development, and is keen to secure Armstrong a loan deal to a Football League club. The report states that the Magpies have already received enquiries from League One and Championship clubs for his services, although McClaren wants to assess him before any deal is confirmed.
It is believed that Armstrong will travel with Newcastle on their pre-season tour of the USA, as the Tyneside club look to sign a senior striker as cover, before being loaned out until New Year.
The club want him in League One for the first half of the campaign, before stepping up to Championship level for the second half to ensure that his development continues at a steady rate over the course of the 2015/16 campaign.
