Wijnaldum, 24, hit 18 goals for PSV last season, firing Philipp Cocu's side to the Eredivisie title in convincing fashion, breaking years of dominance from Ajax.
Now though, just months after losing Memphis Depay to Manchester United, Cocu could now lose Wijnaldum too, with plenty of interest in his signature.
The Mirror report that Newcastle have sent managing director Lee Charnley to the Netherlands to try and secure a deal for Dutch international Wijnaldum, as new manager Steve McClaren looks to make his first signing as Newcastle boss.
However, the report also states that Everton have now joined the race for Wijnaldum, and are ready to battle Newcastle for his signature.
Where would Wijnaldum fit in at Newcastle?
The former Feyenoord youngster has played in a number of different roles during his career so far, making it interesting to see where he would play at Newcastle.
Wijnaldum is primarily an attacking midfielder, but with Remy Cabella also capable of filling that role, McClaren may need to decide which one plays out wide.
Wijnaldum has a sharp turn of pace which could lend itself to playing out wide, providing a spark on the flanks that Newcastle have been missing. Regardless of which position Wijnaldum could play in for Newcastle, there's no doubting that he would be an excellent signing for the Magpies.
