The new deal will commit Monk to the club until 2018.
Swansea City manager Garry Monk is close to signing a new contract at the Liberty Stadium, according to a report in the South Wales Evening Post.
The news will be music to the ears of Swans fans after an impressive 2014/15 season in the Premier League which saw them rack up a record points tally.
Monk currently has two years left on his current contract, but a new deal will keep him committed to the club until 2018, though the report says there are some finer details to work out between Monk's representatives and the club before he puts pen to paper.
The contract is also said to deal with any potential clubs trying to lure Monk away from the Liberty, but it seems the club are offering terms that would make it harder for any rival to come in for the 36-year-old.
During last season, Monk showed he had the game plan to trouble and even beat the better sides in the Premier League which saw them do the double over both Manchester United and Arsenal - while at times demonstrating tactical flexibility.
After a positive campaign last season, there will be a lot of optimism around the club, and there will be the feeling they can go further than last - maybe even qualifying for a European place.
Monk has shown that has the ability to be a top class manager, and when the deal is signed, it will be wonderful news for Swansea.
