Report: Crystal Palace still interested in Ashley Williams, player open to right move

Crystal Palace are still keen on signing the Swansea defender.

Alan Pardew is attempting to convince Swansea to sell Ashley Williams this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Palace have long held an interest in the 30-year-old Welsh international, and is now looking to formalise his admiration for the player and make a concrete approach for him.

A central defender, Williams has been key to Swansea’s success in recent years, helping them win promotion to the Premier League, and then establishing them in the top flight.

He has built a reputation as one of the most dependable centre-backs in the Premier League, and the Swans managed to fight off interest in him last summer as he signed a new deal with the club.

Captain of both Swansea and the Welsh national team, it is no surprise that Richards is an in demand target, and Palace want to bring him to Selhurst Park this summer.

He is seen by Pardew as a player who will push Palace from top half finishers to Europa League contenders, and the report states that Williams is ‘open to the right challenge’.

There is no reference as to how much the Eagles are willing to pay for Williams, but the report does state that he is valued at £12 million by Swansea. That is a high price to pay for a 30-year-old defender, but if Pardew really wants him, it would be no surprise to see Palace splash out that fee for the Welsh international.
