According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are to hold further talks with Nice over the potential signing of left back Jordan Amavi.
Villa have snapped up Micah Richards on a free transfer from Manchester City, but manager Tim Sherwood now looks set to continue his summer overhaul by pursuing Nice's Amavi.
The 21-year-old left back enjoyed a superb season in Ligue 1, scoring four goals in 36 games for the French side - and there is now interest in his signature.
Mercato 365 recently reported that Arsenal were considering a move to bring Amavi to the Premier League, with neither Kieran Gibbs nor Nacho Monreal nailing down the left back spot under Arsene Wenger.
However, the Daily Mail now believe that Amavi could be close to a move to England, only with Aston Villa rather than Arsenal.
The report states that Villa will continue talks with Nice today over a £9m switch, with Sherwood hoping to secure a deal for Amavi in the coming days.
Signal of intent
Villa landed something of a coup with the signing of Richards earlier this summer, but landing Amavi could be a real coup - and a signal of intent under Sherwood.
Amavi is tipped to be a star of the future having impressed with Nice last season, and his quality was underlined by Arsenal pursuing a deal for him.
The left back could be a French international in the not too distant future, and could be Villa's starting left back for years to come if they can seal a deal - possibly becoming their signing of the summer, if he can match his displays in France.
