Phil Thompson reacts to Sterling's latest move, suggests what Liverpool 'must' do

The former Liverpool assistant manager has aired his view on Twitter.

Phil Thompson believes Liverpool 'must' take Raheem Sterling on their pre-season tour if he is still at Anfield by the end of the week.

Indeed, Thompson, a former defender and assistant manager with the Reds, feels the Merseyside outfit must take control of the situation 'for football's sake.'

According to the Guardian, Sterling failed to report for training on Wednesday and cited illness as his reason, with the player believed to no longer want to work with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

And, on Twitter, Thompson aired a view that suggests he feels the player has too much power as the situation currently stands.

Sterling is said by the Guardian's report among others to want a move to Manchester City, with Liverpool having rejected two bids from their Premier League rivals.

A third offer is expected to be made and the 20-year-old is widely anticipated to end up at the Etihad Stadium.

It would be interesting to see Sterling travel with the Reds on pre-season tour but, with the young winger so intent on leaving, would it really be the best stance for Liverpool to take?
