A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United…
According to a report from the Daily Star, Manchester United will complete the signing of Italian international right-back Matteo Darmian on Thursday…and he will allegedly not be the last new arrival this summer.
United have already signed Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven and the Star claims the club will announce Darmian’s £12million signing tomorrow with manager Louis van Gaal also keen to add a commanding centre-back, a new striker and potentially a new goalkeeper if David de Gea moves on.
Then of course there is the need for reinforcements in the centre of midfield so in short it could be a busy few weeks at Old Trafford.
The German international has long been linked with the English club but he has now committed his future to Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking to reporters in Singapore, the 26-year-old said, “Of course when the big clubs are interested, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s an honour. But I decided I wanted to stay here.”
It remains to be seen if Hummels will one day turn out for United but for now they must turn their attention elsewhere, with Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi a sensible if expensive alternative if van Gaal wants real quality and strength at the back.
