Liverpool media round-up: Potential bid for Pedro as well as Benteke, Manquillo departs

A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is determined not to go on the Reds' pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia according to various reports - including one in the Daily Mirror.

But it seems that Manchester City are willing to take the heat out of the situation by submitting a third offer for the winger who has refused to sign a new, improved contract at Anfield, having already had two bids rejected by the Reds.

The Mirror reports they will offer beyond the £40 million that has already been rejected but may stop short of the £50 million the Reds value the 20-year-old at.

Also the Reds are ready to offer Aston Villa £25 million for Christian Benteke according to the same report, but Villa want to hold out for the £32.5 million release clause in his contract, but the report also suggests they could put in an offer for Barcelona forward Pedro - having 'received encouragement' from the player's advisors.

Elsewhere, defender Javier Manquillo has had his loan deal terminated a year early and returns to Atletico Madrid, the Liverpool Echo reports.

A lack of game time is said to be a contributing factor for the 21-year-old's return to Spain and is likely to go on loan elsewhere.

The Liverpool Echo also profiles Liverpool's strikers ahead of the news season, and reports the club are seeking moves for the trio of Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini

Lambert has attracted interest from other clubs in the Premier League, while it is said that the Reds will be prepared to loan out Balotelli in order to get him off the books.
