So far Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been relatively quiet, with Turkish youngster Enes Unal their only signing of the summer thus far.
City are expected to be busy after last season’s disappointing campaign, with many saying their squad is in desperate need of an overhaul if they are to continue competing at the highest level.
And while Kompany doesn’t expect many new faces, he does believe signings will have to be made.
“I think it is key to the success of any top club,” he told Sky Sports News HQ.
“If you don’t do it, you are obviously exposed to other teams becoming stronger. I am hoping and I am confident we will make the right signings. There are not so many top players and a few clubs will probably be after the same players.”
Do Manchester City need an overhaul?
It’s arguable that City don’t need a complete overhaul of their squad this summer, though it remains undeniable that new additions are required.
Primarily, a centre back to partner Kompany should be top priority as Eliaquim Mangala didn’t look up the task last season and Martin Demichelis isn’t getting younger.
Similarly, one or even two new wingers would be a welcome addition, with Jesus Navas another not looking up to the Premier League grade and James Milner having departed the club for Liverpool.
