Sky Sports conducted interviews with people from the Los Angeles area, asking them who Steven Gerrard is.
Steven Gerrard may be a hero on the streets of Liverpool, but it’s an altogether different story when it comes to Los Angeles.
The 35-year-old waved goodbye to Anfield at the end of last season, ending his career-long association with the Reds in the process.
Now with LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer, as part of an 18-month designated player contract worth a reported $9 million (£5.8m), Gerrard is moving on to an exciting new chapter in his career.
But despite his status as a Liverpool and England national team legend, it would appear that many LA folk are unaware of the Merseysider’s status as a soccer icon.
In a special segment filmed by Sky Sports and uploaded to YouTube, several locals are interviewed and asked for their thoughts on the signing of Gerrard.
It’s fair to say that their response is underwhelming to say the least.
While some appeared to know who Gerrard was, others appeared altogether clueless.
Perhaps the biggest insult came when one local appeared to suggest Gerrard was a famous former Manchester United player.
Another fan, meanwhile, appeared to be under the impression that he would be lining up alongside David Beckham – who left the club three years ago.
Still, once Gerrard starts banging in the goals, that could change.
