Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with Rio Ave left-back Tiago Pinto and Nacional forward Marco Matias.

According to Portuguese publication Mais Futebol, Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing up former Portugal under-21 internationals Tiago Pinto and Marco Matias.

The report states that Tiago Pinto had been a target for Polish side Legia Warsaw, but now seems close to joining newly appointed head coach Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday, along with Marco Matias.

The duo, who played for the Portugal youth national side in the same age group, would represent somewhat of a coup by Wednesday as they look to build a side good enough for promotion to the Premier League.

Who is Marco Matias?

The 26-year-old, who has a valuation of £3.15million on transfermrkt.co.uk, has proven himself to be a reliable forward in the Portuguese league over the years.

He played arguably the best football of his career last season, registering 21 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions, which includes a goal in the Europa League qualification round 1st leg.

He played the majority of his football as wide attacker last season, ending the campaign with four goals in three matches.

Who is Tiago Pinto?

The 27-year-old, who has a valuation of £1.26million on transfermrkt.co.uk, has played in the Europa League and both the Portuguese and Spanish top flight in his career.

He was ever-present for Rio Ave last season, in both Liga NOS and the Europa League, and accumulated 41 appearances in all competitions.

Rio Ave finished 10th out of 18 teams in the Portuguese league and only six teams conceded less in the division, indicating the defence was largely not at fault for not finishing higher.
