Ronald Koeman confirms Jordy Clasie is on Southampton's transfer list

Southampton want to sign Clasie, also linked to Aston Villa, Newcastle, Manchester United and Sunderland.

Clasie is one of the most in demand players in European football at the moment, and Ronald Koeman has confirmed to Voetbal International that the Feyenoord man is on his transfer list.

The Dutch coach said: “He's a good young player and international of the Dutch team. In my eyes he is ready for a step up. He can go show his qualities in a competition that is greater than the Eredivisie. Clasie is also developing as a leader. As Morgan Schneiderlin leaves, we need a replacement. Clasie is one of the candidates is on our list.”

This is promising news for Southampton fans, as Clasie is one of the most talented young footballers currently playing.

The 24-year-old midfielder captains Feyenoord, and is already a frequent fixture in the Dutch national team. His tough tackling style and impressive ball possessing ability make him the perfect all-round midfielder, and his young age means he is only going to improve.

He has been linked with a host of clubs this summer, with Southampton one of five Premier League clubs said to be tracking Clasie’s availability. The midfielder is expected to leave Feyenoord this summer, and the Telegraph claim that Aston Villa want him, whilst Sunderland have been linked to Clasie by SoccerNews.

The Mirror believes that Southampton and Newcastle both want the midfielder, and Voetbal International has reported on interest from Manchester United.

However, the Saints could hold a trump card in the race to sign Claise, with him developing as a player and establishing himself in the Feyenoord side under current Southampton boss Koeman.

He could be keen to link back up with the boss who helped him become the talented midfielder that he currently is, and Southampton have confirmed they are keeping tabs on Claise ahead of a potential summer move.
