According to the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa have identified FC Basel's Breel Embolo as a potential replacement for Christian Benteke.
The Guardian reported on Monday that striker Benteke will ask Villa for a transfer this summer as he chases European football, leaving manager Tim Sherwood to identify potential replacements.
Benteke would be a hard act to follow considering his record of 49 goals in 100 games for Villa, but Sherwood may have found an alternative.
The Mirror report that Basel wonderkid Breel Embolo is now a target for Villa, with a £10m asking price on the player's head having shot to fame in Switzerland.
The Cameroon-born striker has earned comparisons to Samuel Eto'o thanks to his combination of pace and power, and his record at just 18 years of age is impressive to say the least.
With 18 goals in 50 games for Basel, Embolo has made a real impact at club level, and has even earned three caps for the Swiss national team already.
However, Villa won't be the only team interested in signing the teenager, with The Mirror also noting that Tottenham Hotspur are also pursuing him, with manager Mauricio Pochettino sending scouts to watch him recently.
Embolo - a real coup?
Villa will look to be ambitious in the transfer market this summer as Sherwood attempts to take the club back up the Premier League table, but signing Embolo would be an impressive move.
The teenager has been a revelation at Basel, and is considered to be one of the world's hottest young prospects - and he has already backed that up with impressive displays in the Basel first team.
Bigger clubs - such as Tottenham - may be interested in Embolo too, so if Villa were somehow able to bring him to Birmingham, it really would be one of their biggest coups in recent years.
