As confirmed by the BBC, Barcelona have completed the signing of midfielder Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid for an initial fee of £24 million.
The self-proclaimed Liverpool fan has long been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital, his agent Ahmet Bulut previously telling Mundo Deportivo 12 months ago of his desire to move on.
First reports of a switch to the current La Liga champions were mooted in the Barcelona-based paper Diario Sport, the Catalans having long been reported as reaching an agreement with Diego Simeone’s side.
Now the deal has been confirmed by bigger outlets such as the BBC, and Turan’s decision to don a Barca shirt and publish the photo on social media suggests there is no going back on his Nou Camp switch.
What Will Arda Turan offer Barcelona?
The Turkish international is the ideal replacement for Xavi. He’s technical, brilliant in possession and able to create goals and score himself when entering the final third.
It’s unlikely he will be a first-team regular, with Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta forming a solid midfield partnership alongside Sergio Busquets, but competition is healthy and he will get plenty of opportunities.
Turan has won a host of trophies at the Vicente Calderon, including La Liga, the Copa Del Rey and Europa League, and will head to the Nou Camp with the best wishes of all those connected to the club.
