Could Manchester United be on the verge of signing an Italian right-back?
According to a report from respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United had fresh talks with Torino on Monday evening regarding the possible transfer of right-back Matteo Darmian.
Di Marzio claims the latest talks were positive and that today (Tuesday) could be the day when the move ultimately goes through.
The report states that Torino want an initial €18million for the 25-year-old with an additional €2million in add-ons. That works out at around £12.7million to begin with and potentially £14.1million all in.
United have reportedly already reached an agreement with the player, and with Di Marzio claiming Louis van Gaal’s side are happy with the player’s price-tag, it seems they could be on the verge of completing their second deal of the summer.
Darmian is predominantly a right-back although he can play on the opposite side or as a right winger if required.
With Rafael seemingly on his way out of Old Trafford, United were always in need of a natural successor and having seen Dani Alves commit to Barcelona and Nathaniel Clyne move to Liverpool it could be that United have now identified the player to feature regularly in that position.
With 150 appearances for Torino under his belt, and six goals and 11 assists in that time, he could be a fine addition to van Gaal’s squad.
