Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin to star on front of new WWE 2K16 game

Stone Cold has been revealed as the cover star for the latest WWE 2K16 game.

Stone Cold Steve Austin will be making a return to WWE...on the front of their latest WWE 2K16 video game cover that is!

Check out the tweet sent out below:

The decision has been met with mixed reviews, die-hard fans are salivating at the prospect of Austin being heavily featured on WWE merchandise again and must therefore play a big part in the actual game. On the other hard, more forward thinking fans have suggested that some of their up and coming stars, such as Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns or Dean Ambrose could benefit more to the exposure that comes with being on the cover of a game which will no doubt sell well all over the world.

Speaking on making the cover, as reported by the Daily Mail, Austin said: "I think it speaks to the impact my career had on the business. It was a testament to the times when the business was as hot as it ever has been. I got a chance to lead that charge and all these years later, it comes back around."

The game is set to be released on Oct. 27 in North America and on Oct. 30 internationally and Austin will be one of a 120 playable character roster, making it the largest in WWE video game history.

If some optimistic fans thought that this could possibly spark an actual comeback in the squared circle, Stone Cold had some bad news: "I think I've left everything that I've got in the ring. There's no reason to go back in the ring and prove anything. I had to ride off into the sunset a little bit earlier than I'd have liked. But that final match I had at Wrestlemania with The Rock was my last match."

While there is a phrase in the wrestling industry to never say never, surely this is as clear as it comes that Austin will not be making a return to the ring despite Vince McMahon's wish for a star-studded Wrestlemania this year. Rumours have been running wild about Stone Cold's status ever since he appeared on Paul Heyman's podcast and the hint of a match with Brock Lesnar came up, which Austin has again since refuted.

It is going to be interesting to see how many of the big stars Vince McMahon can manage to reel in for Wrestlemania.
