Why Celtic's Saidy Janko move is a fantastic piece of business

Celtic have brought a wonderful young talent to the club and he should become a star in time.

Celtic manager Ronny Deila has already proved he is a wonderful operator in the transfer market, but while previously it was loan signings Jason Denayer and (for a time) John Guidetti that were most impressive, now he is showing he is equally adept at sealing some wonderful permanent deals.

First it was Dedryck Boyata, signed from Manchester City to replace the hole left by Denayer’s return to the Etihad Stadium, and now it is Saidy Janko, a wonderful young talent who could go on to become one of Celtic’s most important players in a few years.

The former Manchester United player may only be 19, but age is no barrier to success for Deila’s side, and while some Celtic fans may not know what they are getting in Janko, he is an absolute gem of a footballer.

Predominantly a right-back, Janko can also play as a right winger or a centre-back and that versatility can only be a good thing for Celtic.

Expect him to play the vast majority of his games as a right-back but his pace and attacking intent is such that he is also a highly effective winger as his one goal and six assists for United’s under-21s proves.

Janko also spent a spell on loan at Championship side Bolton Wanderers last season, scoring and assisting in a 3-1 victory against Fulham on his debut.

That is not a bad way to introduce yourself to your new fans and Janko will no doubt be hoping to make a similar impact when he takes to the field for his competitive Celtic debut.

The four-year deal to bring Janko to Celtic is an astute piece of business and the only surprise is that United let him go; because in time expect him to be a Bhoys fan favourite and a regular Swiss international.
