Etienne Capoue has swapped Tottenham Hotspur for Watford and his former club in France has sent the Hornets a special message.

French club Toulouse have sent a Twitter message to Watford after the newly-promoted side signed Etienne Capoue from Tottenham Hotspur.

The midfielder was on the books of the Ligue 1 club prior to his move to White Hart Lane, coming through the youth ranks before making 196 appearances for the first-team.

His impressive form saw him earn international recognition and he has been capped seven times for France to date. But his move to Tottenham did not go according to plan, with the 26-year-old managing just 36 appearances in total and just 21 minutes of Premier League football from 23 November 2014 to the end of last season.

However, that was not enough to dissuade Watford from making a club-record bid for the player and he has now signed a four-year deal at the club.

If Capoue can rediscover his Toulouse form it will be a superb piece of business for Watford and the player could yet prove Tottenham were wrong to play him so rarely and sell him so quickly.

The French side certainly gave that impression when they sent the message to Watford, writing, “Dear Watford fans, we’re sure that Etienne Capoue will regale you. But before, enjoy his highlights.”

They then posted a video showing what Capoue did in his final year in France, showing Watford what the player is capable of and reminding Tottenham of the performances that prompted them to sign him in the first place.
