The 26-year-old signed for a club record fee, having moved to White Hart Lane in the summer of 2013. A star with former club Toulouse, Capoue made 196 appearances for the French club, before signing for Spurs.
However, he failed to establish himself in North London, making just 36 appearances across his two seasons. Injury and managerial changes prevented some of his game time, although there were apparent issues with his attitude which have been attributed to some of his failures.
Capoue departs with little reputation in English football, but his signing is still impressive for Watford. He will improve their playing squad and add Premier League experience to the Hornets first-team set-up.
Following the completion of the deal, Watford and Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter to Capoue’s move to Hertfordshire, with many pleased to see him finally move to a club with whom he will get a chance to play consistent football.
Capoue's signed! 5.7 million is a good buy— Jamie Judge (@jamiejudge3) July 6, 2015
I kind of wish it worked with Capoue, but oh well good luck to him and Watford.— David (@DavidTHFC_) July 6, 2015
Glad Capoue signed. Have heard good things about him and DM is a position we've struggled in recently. Solid bit of business. #WatfordFC— Diggles (@SemtexSports) July 6, 2015
Capoue is such a good signing for Watford!— Schmidt (@Connor_Woodss) July 6, 2015
Think Watford have brought a good player in Capoue. He will be quality for them. Just didn't fit into pochettino's pressing style.— Carl Avison (@CarlosAvo1) July 6, 2015
What a signing Capoue is for Watford. Looked pretty good at Spurs although he didn't get the chance.— Draxlered (@Totalfootie7) July 6, 2015
Au revoir, Etienne Capoue. I never really understood why he didn't get more of a chance at Spurs. Watford are getting a good player.— Derek Noll (@dnoll5) July 6, 2015
Spurs fans loved Capoue, and rightly so, good player. They're going to look silly again when he is class for Watford.— MackAttack (@MackAtttack) July 6, 2015
Good luck to Capoue at Watford. Was only ever going to be a utility player for us but wasn't the worst of the seven signings last season— The White Rhino (@SpursCol) July 6, 2015
