A 25-year-old defender, who is a natural right-back but can also play in the centre of defence or holding midfield, Martina is a 20-capped Curaco international. Well regarded for his appearances in the Eredivisie, he has played 56 games for FC Twente since moving to the club in the summer of 2013, building an impressive reputation.
He signed for Twente from RKC Waalwijk, where he played under Erwin Koeman, brother to Ronald and assistant coach at St Mary’s Stadium.
The Dutch-born defender clearly did enough to impress Koeman during that spell, and he is now in talks with the Saints manager ahead of a summer move to the South Coast.
FC Twente are against selling him, but knowing the financial strength of the Premier League, they may have no choice but to sell him if the Saints submit a formal offer for his services.
He is already in advanced talks with the club, as per the report, and it does not appear as if it will be too long before Martina is turning out at St Mary’s, with the Koeman brothers clearly keen on bringing the talented defender to the Premier League.
