The Wales international left Scottish Premiership champions Celtic and moved to Premier League outfit Sunderland on a four-year contract last week.

According to BBC Sport, the Black Cats had to pay as much as £2 million in transfer fee for the services of the 23-year-old right-back.

Matthews played for Celtic for four years after moving to the Glasgow giants from Welsh outfit Cardiff City in the summer of 2011.

During his time at Celtic Park, the Welshman won the league title four times and established himself as one of the better players in Scotland.

Matthews will now be determined to show his quality in the Premier League and take his game to the next level.
