Parlour suggests what Rodgers is showing with Liverpool signings

Former Gunner Ray Parlour has explained what he feels Brendan Rodgers is trying to show with the players he's signed for Liverpool.

Former Gunner Ray Parlour told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT that he feels Liverpool are making a real statement of intent with the players they have signed so far this summer.

Liverpool are one of the big early moves in terms of transfers, improving a number of positions, which started with deals for midfielder James Milner and striker Danny Ings.

Parlour has suggested that Reds fans can start to get excited all over again as they look forward to a bright and potentially fruitful future on a number of fronts in the coming season.

“Brendan is certainly putting a marker down to say ‘we’re going to try and get into that top four’ – They have really backed him – They’re looking very good again and as a Liverpool fan, you’d be very excited,” said Parlour on talkSPORT.

Liverpool’s top four chances are good

Liverpool are one of the teams that should be aiming for a position in at least the top four when the next campaign gets underway.

A good start is essential, but Brendan Rodgers deserves praise for giving himself extra options in positions where the side struggled at times last season.

That will help during periods where the club suffer unavoidable injury or suspension problems, which places a strain on the squad.

Premier League has to be the priority

The Premier League should be Liverpool’s main focus from August onwards.

Domestic cup success and progression in the Europa League would be important and enjoyable for the club’s fans, but the safest way for Liverpool to guarantee themselves a place in the Champions League next season, is for the club to make sure of a top four spot.
