Joe Royle questions Manchester City-linked Paul Pogba's asking price

The former Manchester United youngster is one of the best midfielders in the world at the moment.

Former Manchester City manager Joe Royle has questioned on talkSport whether Paul Pogba is worth the £70million being touted for his services.

The former Manchester United youngster has turned into one of the hottest properties in world football in recent years, with his development having taken an impressive upward curve since joined Juventus.

His fine performances have led to increased speculation about his future this summer and City are among his suitors, having reportedly held talks with him back in May, according to Sky Sports.

He would not come cheaply though, and Royle has questioned the prices being touted in the media.

“To be honest I haven’t quite seen a £70million player in Paul Pogba,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.

“I’m amazed about some of the figures. There’s no doubt that, if you have Manchester United and Juventus on your CV, then you are top player. But £70m, wow, I haven’t seen that to be honest.”

Is Paul Pogba worth £70 million?

The question posed by Royle is certainly an interesting one, with many questioning the high prices being quoted for Pogba’s services.

While his talent is undoubted, he still has a lot to learn to become a truly world-class centre midfielder, while it could also be argued that it is easier to develop like he has in Serie A than somewhere like the Premier League.

On that basis then, it could be argued Juventus are simply using the increased interest in his services to ramp up the asking price, while they also know the likes of City and Real Madrid are capable of paying big money for their man.
