Hearts beat Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday to Oshaniwa

HITC Sport understands Hearts are set to win the race for Nigerian defender Juwon Oshaniwa.

HITC Sport understands Nigerian defender Juwon Oshaniwa is poised to seal a move to Hearts next week.

Oshaniwa has been linked with the likes of Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday, by the likes of the BBC, but it appears Hearts are in pole position to land the 24-year-old.

Oshaniwa, who can play at centre-back and left-back is a free agent after leaving Israeli club FC Ashdod.

The highly-rated defender played in all four of Nigeria’s World Cup matches in Brazil in 2014 and his signing would be something of a coup for Hearts as they plan for life back in the Scottish Premiership.

Oshaniwa is thought to have agreed a three-year deal to join Hearts and he is expected to finalise the move once he completes a medical.

The player's agent, Ladi Salami, confirmed Oshaniwa is set to arrive in the UK next week to complete his move to Hearts.

"We have agreed a deal with Hearts and have been waiting on a work permit," Salami told HITC Sport.

"We expect to be in Scotland early next week to have the medical and then complete the move and it is a great deal for Hearts as there were other clubs in for Juwon, but he is really excited about coming to Scotland and playing for Hearts."
