HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Rotherham United are closing in on the signing of former Nottingham Forest defender Greg Halford on a free transfer.
Versatile performer Halford is a free agent after seeing out his contract at the City Ground earlier this summer following two seasons at the club.
Halford was placed on the transfer list at Forest last summer by former boss Stuart Pearce and he spent most of last season on loan at Brighton.
The 30-year-old made six appearances at Brighton and they were thought to be keen on keeping Halford, but Rotherham have moved quickly to lure him to the New York Stadium.
Halford, who began his career at Colchester, has a wealth of experience having played in the Premier League for Reading, Sunderland and Wolves in his career
Should Halford join Rotherham he will become their sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Lewis Buxton, Joe Mattock, Aidan White, Danny Collins and Tom Thorpe.
