Bilic explains decision to include Dicks in West Ham coaching team

Julian Dicks will be part of West Ham United’s coaching staff next season.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has explained on the club’s official website why he decided to bring in Julian Dicks this summer.

Dicks has been appointed a first-team coach at the Hammers, having been the West Ham United Ladies manager last season.

Bilic and Dicks were teammates at West Ham in the 1990s, and the Croatian has explained why he decided to make the 46-year-old part of his coaching team for the 2015-16 campaign.

“It was my choice from the beginning,” Bilic told West Ham’s official website. “I didn't bring Julian onto my staff because he is a legend.

"He is my friend and we were room-mates when we played together. We were very close then.

“We met after I signed and it was like we had never been apart. Without a doubt it was something I wanted to do.”

Dicks scored 65 goals in 326 games for the Hammers and played with Bilic during their time at the club.

The Englishman featured for the London outfit 1988 to 1993 and again from 1994 to 1999.

Dicks also managed Wivenhoe Town, Grays Athletic and Sealand before taking charge of the West Ham United Ladies team.

The former Liverpool defender knows West Ham inside out, and him being part of the coaching team is certainly going to help Bilic.
