The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has signed a contract until 2020 after months of negotiations.
Nabil Bentaleb has finally signed a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur, and he revealed to the Spurs website just how delighted he was with the length of the deal. After what seemed like months of uncertainty regarding the talented midfielder's future, the club have done what many Spurs fans have thought was the smart thing and awarded the 20-year-old a new five-year deal.
And with Bentaleb one of the most promising midfield prospects in Europe, Tottenham have brushed away any links to the likes of Juventus or Arsenal that the Mail reported in June, and tied him down to the club until his mid-20s.
“I’m really happy to commit myself to the club until 2020," Bentaleb told the club's website. "It’s a good achievement for me, I’ve been working hard to get a contract like this.
“You can see how much it means to me by signing a five-year deal and how I fight everyday on the pitch.
“I’ve had some ups and downs, but the most important thing is that I’ve learned a lot and I hope I will continue to learn. The club has given me the trust and I have to thank them for that and keep working really hard to achieve things with Tottenham.”
It's hard to believe the Algerian international is still as young as he is. Having broken into the first team under Tim Sherwood in December 2013, Bentaleb has gone from strength to strength for both club and country. Last season he underlined his importance under Mauricio Pochettino by being Tottenham's first choice central midfielder whenever he was available.
The youngster started the last 15 games of the last Premier League campaign, and it is likely the Argentine will continue to make him the heartbeat of the side in the coming season, while he also has a World Cup and an African Cup of Nations under his belt.
With two signings already in at Tottenham, it is hard to argue against Bentaleb's commitment to the club being one of the most important pieces of business the club will do all summer.
