Torn muscle fibres could see Di Maria sidelined for a month or more, as Manchester United await his return to England.
The Copa America final ended in tears for Angel Di Maria, with less than thirty minutes on the clock, as Argentina battled against Chile. An encounter his side would eventually lose on penalties against the host nation.
Not only was that bad news for Argentina and their hopes during the game, but also for Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet AS, who have advanced that early analysis on the player indicates the Red Devils will have plenty of reasons to be concerned.
Early indications from the medical services of the Argentine national team, have suggested that Di Maria may have suffered a severe hamstring injury, outlined as torn fibres in the femoral biceps of his left thigh.
Depending on the severity of those torn muscle fibres, with further examinations due when the 27-year-old star reports back to Manchester United, he could now be sidelined for at least a month, depending on how much damage further tests reveal.
Evident that Di Maria will clearly miss the remainder of pre-season with the Red Devils, there are likewise concerns that the midfielder won't have recovered in time for the big kick-off in the Premier League.
Manchester United host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday 8th August, and for now, it's looking highly likely they'll be doing so without Di Maria available.
