As per a report in the French publication La Provence, Marseille will resume talks with fellow top-flight outfit Caen over a deal to bring in talented midfielder N’golo Kante.
A potential move to the Foxes seemed increasingly likely during the week, Caen’s Deputy Director Xavier Gravelaine revealing on the club’s Twitter account that an agreement had been reached with Leicester.
However, French publication France Football stated Kante’s intentions of instead moving to Marseille, despite their previous offer being described as embarrassing by the club’s senior figures.
Now, Marseille-based paper La Provence insist talks are to resume over the next 24 hours as the club’s try to reach an agreement over a transfer fee which so far appears poles apart.
Leicester still in with a shout:
While it’s looking increasingly likely that Kante will head to the south of France, a deal will only be reached if Marseille decide to cough up a fee in the region of Leicester’s reported bid.
It’s a sum many in France feel is overpriced and another French paper Le Phoceen believe Marseille could turn to Nantes star Jordan Veretout should they feel Caen are unwilling to lower Kante’s price tag.
With the midfielder set to leave Caen this summer regardless, a switch to the King Power with Leicester is still very much a possibility if his ideal move to Marseille can’t be concluded.
