One of Aston Villa's players has welcomed the club's new defensive signing.
The pair know each other well from their time together at Manchester City and Sinclair believes Villa boss Tim Sherwood has landed a bargain.
Richards became a free agent after his City contract expired, and having spent the last season on loan at Fiorentina he was always likely to be leaving the Etihad Stadium permanently this summer.
That he did, and Villa were quick to snap him up on a four-year deal, signing a player who still has plenty to offer and could quickly become a fan favourite at the club.
With Ron Vlaar seemingly on his way out and Nathan Baker continuing to struggle with injuries, Villa always needed to strengthen at centre-back, and in Richards they have got a fine player in that position.
“Micah is a great signing,” Sinclair told avfc.co.uk. “First and foremost he’s a very, very good defender. When he’s at his best, he’s top quality.
“He has pace, power and a good reading of the game. He defends so well.”
He was always going to be a player in demand considering his free transfer status so Villa have done a great job bringing him in.
Now he has the chance to show City what they are missing, and to help Sherwood lead Villa back up the table next season and beyond.
