According to a report from TMW, Lazio have told Real Madrid they are unwilling to sell Argentine international midfielder Lucas Biglia for any less than £25 million.
Los Blancos are in the midst of an interesting summer with the potential of plenty of upheaval on the horizon, owing to speculation over the future of defender Sergio Ramos.
But first, newly-appointed boss Rafa Benitez wants to add a new defensive midfielder and Lazio’s Lucas Biglia is presumably the player the Spaniard desires, knowing him well from his time in Serie A.
As per a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport, Madrid started negotiations by tabling a £15.6 million bid, although this was knocked back with the Italian club holding out for more.
As interest in the player sparks up, Italian edition TMW now claims that Lazio want as much as £25 million and have set the fee so high in a bid to warn off the La Liga giants.
Should Real Madrid splash the cash on Lucas Biglia?
The Madrid giants’ failure to land a major trophy last season was largely due to their inability to replace Xabi Alonso, sold to Bayern Munich, and Luka Modric who was often absent with injury.
In an unbalanced midfield, the club cried out for a protector to sit in-front of the back four but the likes of Toni Kroos, Aiser Illarramendi and even Sergio Ramos struggled to fill the role.
At 29 years of age, Biglia has plenty of experience and would represent an astute signing for the Santiago Bernabeu outfit, regardless of whether the club overpay for him or not.
